There is some unused (no visible cross-refrences nether scripts nor direct calls) text similar to secret password message with pause code at the end. Probably was some secret password, but seems "drum mode" was enabled by default in final release.

US version:

(BUR) GameGenie:
GAULAVGK-Re-enables a hidden copyright screens at the game start. This credits is enabled in the prototype version.

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons - Heroes of the Lance

(BUR) GameGenie:
AESNNYPA-Re-enable the simple debug mode. At the title screen menu hold Down on controller 2 then press A or B to change the map number. During the game press A on controller 2 to display current map number and other variable.

Adventures in the Magic Kingdom

(BUR) GameGenie:
There are three debug routines/helpers still sitting in the game's ROM. Two of them seems meant to be called anytime during the game with currently unexisting button codes to view or change current state of the game data and variables. Third one is for debugging the game message dialogs. All routines can't be re-enabled without some extra hacking, but can be accessed somehow with following GameGenie codes.
GAVYVOGK-Very hacky way to see the debug variables display at the top-left corner of the screen during the game and only if the RAM variable $AA is not zero. There are no proper number sprites left in most of the CHR sprite banks, so you couln'd see something useful anyway.
PTVSUTZE+OYVSKVKK+KYVNSPTE+UZVNVPEA-Use these codes to enter the sprite/palette/music test instead of the quiz mode during the game. This routine starts from the Sprite view mode.
Use Left or Right to change sprite displayed on the screen, It will be displayed animated, but there is no proper CHR bank setup for every sprite, and only the current one is used, so many of the sprites are can't be seen properly.
Press Select + Start to reset the game.
Press Up + Start to enter the Palette/Sound test mode. A set of vertical sprites will be displayed. Again, there are no number sprites, so all numbers are unreadable. You can do the following operations in this mode:
Press Up or Down to move the cursor to the desired palette index from 0 to 15.
Press Left or Right to change selected palette index by 1. Hold A or B in addition to change the hi bits of index.
Press B + Start to select the background palette to edit, press A + Start to select the sprites palette.
The first palette entry number also represents the music/sound track index, press Start to play it. Finally, press Down + Select to exit back to the Sprite view mode.
PTVSUTZE+OYVSKVKK+TGVNSPTE+KZVNVPEA-Replaces the quiz mode with the Message test mode. Press Left or Right to change the message number at the top of the screen (and surprisingly visible), press A to display the message. There are several messages unused in this game.%Indexes $00 and $01 are for the hidden programmers message "ADVENTURE IN MAGIC KINGDOM BY BAMBOO!!! TENTIWOKURAU WO YORUSIKU!!! SATURDAY'S MORNING IS MORNING SALAD". This message can't be seen during the game in other way.
Index $02 is for the dialog window test message with a lines of letters.
Index $03 is unused default "HELLO!" message for the quiz mode people with indexes above 7, but there are only 7 characters in this game that offers you a key for answer the questions. Probably on the early stage they were meant to be on the map all at once and you should find the right one every time, and all characters with no quiz may say the default message. In the final game, there is no one left on the map, when you got this quiz key and no one you can speak with.
Indexes $51-$55 are for unused dialog messages that offers you something instead of the Silver key. So either the one way or another, there should be a game behavior or a side quests that offers you something instead of silver keys. One more evidence for that is the unused graphics on the items screen, in addition to "KEY" string, there are "ITEM" and "PLESENT" strings graphic, which may be one of the prizes instead of Silver keys.

Adventures of Bayou Billy, The, Mad City

English versions:

(BUR) Hidden text:
There is a hidden version data inside ROM:
SAMP881226FOR-KONAMI.INC

Adventures of Captain Comic, The

(BUR) GameGenie:
ENSSIAEI+LESSTAAA-Somehow re-enables an infinite lives cheat. It should write to the internal variable a zero, but there is no register init for it. So we can just avoid writing the non-zero value to the variable. To enable this cheat, at the title screen hold A + B then press Start.

Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Tom Sawyer no Bouken

(BUR) GameGenie:
IANXLOIZ (for the Japanese version)
IEOXAPLL (for the US version)
-Re-enable the Cheat Menu.
To enter to the Cheat Menu press rapidly Up then Down.
This cheat combination was disabled in the final release. It was meant to be enabled with the button code Up, Down, Down, Right, Left, Right, Right, Left, Up, Down, Down, Right, but on development stage it was shorted to first two buttons. Because of oddity of the keypress test routine, the button codes are saved just for a short period, so you need to enter this combination as fast as you can while cheat is triggers. A rapid pressing of this buttons should work at some moment.

Akira

(BUR) Game Genie:
XTXKVYAV-Re-enables the debug scene skip. Any time during the game press B on controller 2. Note, that if you use scene skip at the game over or the password screens, you'll get to the ending screen, which is the last possible scene to get to.
GEVENXGK-Re-enables the ability to fast forward the current message output by pressing A on controller 1.

Akumajou Densetsu, Castlevania III - Dracula's Curse

(BUR) GameGenie:
YAUTAGZA-Enable "Debug menu" right before game start. You can select one of four rows by pressing Select and using A or B change it's values. First row represents a stage number to start with. Second row represents an act number for selected stage. Third row represents exactly which room you wanted to start with unused selected stage and act. Last option allow you to choose your partner. To start the game, press Start, but you will start with no extra lives, so you get a game over the first time you die.
Source: tcrf.net

Akumajou Special - Boku Dracula-kun

(BUR) Copyrights check:
As most games by Konami made after 1991 year game contain simple copyrights check, testing some parts of CHR and some bytes of PRG data. Then enables "no enemies" mode from second level.

(BUR) GameGenie:
ZZSKYGSZ+NLVGAGEU+ZASKZKZA-Re-enables the stage select screen after the title screen instead of main menu.
PAVLSYAA-There were more than one cheat meant to be available at the early developement stage. But later only Konami Kode easter is left and all other cheats data were removed. But cheat flag for the second cheat still exists and checking by the program. Using this game genie you may replace the empty Konami code easter with "Extra 50 lives" cheat. Just enther the same Konami code and start a new game for it.

Aladdin I/II/4 (JY Company), Popeye 2 - Travels in Persia

(BUR) GameGenie:
PAOEILAA-Enable second game mode "Popey - Travels in Persia"
ZAVVTPAA-Enable "Aladdin" title modifier 2 (usually "III" to the title)
LAVVTPAA-Enable "Aladdin" title modifier 3 (usually the same as "I"/"II")
GAVVTPAA-Enable "Aladdin" title modifier 4 (usually "SPECIAL")

(BUR) Hidden text:
Text
. Silvers LIN .
is used as RAM initialization string.

Alien 3

(BUR) Hidden text:
There is a hidden copyright message in ROM:
ALIEN3...NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM.PROGRAMMED BY DARYL BOWERS FOR PROBE SOFTWARE.CHECKSUM FOR ROMS:
There is no checksums as text, probably there was some message but seems there is no cross-refrences to this string in ROM anymore.

Alien Syndrome

(BUR) GameGenie:
PEOATIAA (for the Japanese version)
PEOAYIAA (for the US version)
-Re-enables the infinite lives cheat. At the player selection screen hold Up on controller 1 and Down on controller 2 at the same time, then press A on controller 1. Instead of number of lives, a "FREE" word will be displayed.

(BUR) Hidden text:

(BUR) GameGenie:
GENYEIEI-There is a series of the Namco games, made by the same programmers Haruhisa Udagawa and Kumi Hanaoka, that contains the same self-test for the data integrity. To enable any of these tests you need a special device that should be plugged into the expansion port. The operation of that device is very simple. It should accept the data bit from the data input port and return it back inverted to the output data port. The device consists of 4-bit shift register, working as some sort of the FIFO buffer. The input bits are goes to the input and then shifted to te output after a 4 cycles. At the game's boot, it tries to send some special data to the device. If the data output doesn't match the data input inverted, then the game continues the normal operation. But if all data (usually 32, rarely 64 bytes) is matches, self-tests will be performed. The program calculates 24-bit partial checksums for the PRG (excluding the last 8K) and the CHR data, summing only every 15th byte, and comparing it against the etalon. Before testing of the PRG data, the background color turns red, before testing of the CHR data, it turns green. If any of these tests are failed, the program will jump directly to the reset routine. It means, one of these tests will be performed infinitely, but until the special device is plugged in, or until the test are passed. Normally, you'll see the red to green flash just before the game's boot. Or the static red screen if the PRG data is bad, or the flashing from red to green screen if CHR data isn't good. Using this Game Genie code you can skip tests for the special device presence and jump straight to the integrity tests.

Batman Returns

(BUR) Copyrights check:
As most games by Konami made after 1991 year, this game contains some simple copy protection. During the game, there are two particular places, where the protection checks is performed. The first one occurs at stage 2-3 during the battle on the Ivory Tower, where it constantly check for the presence of the part of the title name data. The second one performed at the second part of stage 2-2, once when a helicopter bomber enemy appears on the screen and checks for Konami logo tilemap in the PRG-ROM. If one of these tests fails, the special protection flag is raised. There are two main effects triggered. First, at the stage 3-1, it will change its state so if you had already recorded the Penguin's conversation, but the flag for this event isn't raised at the same time, renders this level unbeatable. Second, any correctly generated passwords obtained after protection is triggered (even after the game over and beginning of the new game), will fail at the password entry screen. This flag only will reset if you enter the clean password or reset the system.

At the end of PRG-ROM lies some small ASCII like art with 6 kanji combined in two groups by 3 kanji - two small at the top, one large at the bottom of each group. Kanjis means some words: "大久保" ("Ookubo") and "宇田川" ("Utakawa"). First one is Last name of game programmer, second one - street name it Tokyo, where just now opened entertainment complex "NAMCO INTI SHIBUYA". Back in 1985 year there was small developer company "TomCat System" where Ookubo Ryouiti was working and who develop "Battle City" game for NAMCO company.

Battle Fleet

(BUR) GameGenie:
GEXVLAEI-Some of the Namco games, which uses the 19 mapper PCB, contains also the specific self-test routine. It can test and initialize the internal RAM buffers. Similar to the other Namco games series, in order to run these tests, you must plug in a special device to the famicom expansion port. This device is much simpler than mentioned another device. It just takes one bit of data and immediately returns it inverted to the data port, there is no FIFOs inside. When the program detects the device presence, it performs RAM test and initialization. If RAM is already tested/initialized, the screen will turn blue. If RAM isn't initialized, but after init and test all is fine, then screen will turn yellow or pink. If, even after the reinitialization, RAM test fails, then screen will turn red. After the tests, program goes to the infinite loop, so yo must unplug special device to boot into the game. Using this Game Genie code you can skip the special device check and just directly to the RAM initialization routine. This game tests it's IRAM buffer, used for the expansion sound.

(BUR) GameGenie:
PGONLLPK+EYONGLEI-Re-enables more hidden options in the debug menu as well as simple Debug Mode access cheat. To get to Debug Menu, just hold A then press Reset. Previously unused options in the Debug Menu now can be used. Need investigate, what exactly they do. Some of them are writing some signatures to the SRAM, some toggles unknown flags, seems unused now.
The game is checking if game in full debug mode or not by checking SRAM signature. In the release version it is "IGS", but for the debug version it should be "ALF". This game genie code just fool the debug signature check.

HARUHISA.UDAGAWA & KUMI.HANAOKA

(BUR) GameGenie:
GAUYNTEI-There are a series of the Namco games, made by the same programmers Haruhisa Udagawa and Kumi Hanaoka, that contains the same self-test for the data integrity. Or the static red screen if the PRG data is bad, or the flashing red to green screen if CHR data isn't good. Using this Game Genie code you can skip tests for the special device presence and jump straight to the integrity tests.

(BUR) GameGenie:
GEVYNPEI-Some of the Namco games, which uses the 19 mapper PCB, contains also the specific self-test routine.

But there was message "You got a checksum error today, but that doesn't mean you have to like it!" that appears when CRC is wrong and then jump to the game ending. Seems this stuff was made to prevent from cheating for level select or some other parameters.
GEEAGOOZ-Enables some camera feature on tombs level when saving father. With this code camera behaviour is changing: it will move the same direction where D-Pad buttons is pressed - up, down, left or right. In final release there is only automatic from left to right camera movements left.

When the title screen appears from the bottom of the screen, and before it stops, you must press Up, Right, Down, Left, Down, Right, Up, Left, A, B sequence and then press A to increase some internal counter up to 99. There is no so much time to enter thhis cheat and increase counter turing the title screen animation. In the final version memory areas for storing key sequence and for checking this sequence is different so it isn't possible to trigger cheat. Anyway, cheat counter don't reading at all in game, so it absolutely unuseful. It may be used as default round time counter. $50, $51 vars are counter in decimal notation, $4F main cheat flag, $53-$5C sequence check area, $52 - sequence length variable. $AD-$B6 - sequence store area, $AC - sequence length var (uninitialized by default, may be any index in zero memory).

King Kong 2 - Ikari no Megaton Punch

(BUR) Hidden text:
There are some unused text strings previously used for some menus or messages still in the ROm. First one is a mising STAFF person name, that doesn't appears in the final STAFF roll: "SHIMONETA KENJI". Second one, is a presumably strings from the old version of the title screen: "PLAY SELECT", "KONAMI 1986", "PUSH START BUTTAN". Third one, totally removed password screen texts: "KEY WORD", "END...PUSH A BUTTAN", "KEY WORD ERROR". And finally, at the beginning of the RESET routine, a version string placeholder appears: "RCxxx 1.0 .date.".

King of Kings

(BUR) GameGenie:
GASYSIEI-Some of the Namco games, which uses the 19 mapper PCB, contains also the specific self-test routine. This game tests it's WRAM.

King of Kings, The (Wisdom Tree)

(BUR) Stage skip:
As in many other games, developed by Color Dreams, this one contains a generic level skip cheat, but rather disabled, or which can be enabled in game scripts. To enable it, set the RAM var at $003B any non-zero value. Now during game hold B, then press Select to skip current level. There is no check for the maximum levels, so you just load a garbage if exceeded a number of valid levels.

TONTSSGP+YENVKIIO+IAETVVLA+AZEVKVGG+YYEVSTZO-Re-enables level select cheat. (BUR) Disabled cheat:
There are a huge portion of old unknown code sitting at the end of bank 6 in this game. At the very end of it there is a cheat test routine, checking the entry of the Konami code (Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A). No code being used in current version, some system calls are shifted against the current addresses, so it must be some old debug or even different game's code. It was completely removed from the Japanese version.

There are two cheat sequences at the pause mode are tested actually. The second one is A, B, B, A, B, B and you can see it's working, if you enter it on the pause, the game will unpause. Unfortunately, this cheat does nothing in the current game version. This is clearly a leftover from the Game Boy version, where it works as the level select cheat. The NES version, obviously, is a quick and dirty port from the Game Boy.

GAXYNTEI-There are a series of the Namco games, made by the same programmers Haruhisa Udagawa and Kumi Hanaoka, that contains the same self-test for the data integrity. Or the static red screen if the PRG data is bad, or the flashing red to green screen if CHR data isn't good. Using this Game Genie code you can skip tests for the special device presence and jump straight to the integrity tests.

(BUR) GameGenie:
GEVTZPEI-Some of the Namco games, which uses the 19 mapper PCB, contains also the specific self-test routine. It can test and initialize the internal RAM buffers. Similar to the other Namco games series, in order to run these tests, you must plug in a special device to the famicom expansion port. This device is much simpier than mentioned another device.

GAVYNTEI-There are a series of the Namco games, made by the same programmers Haruhisa Udagawa and Kumi Hanaoka, that contains the same self-test for the data integrity. Or the static red screen if the PRG data is bad, or the flashing red to green screen if CHR data isn't good. Using this Game Genie code you can skip tests for the special device presence and jump straight to the integrity tests.

PAVAYEOK+EGVEAAVA-Re-enables one more routine, quite unfinished. The code is similar to the FDS checksum self-test, which should test some portions of the ROM and quietly continue to work. In our case, code is able to test any bank and any address location and keep all it's checksums, but there is only the last bank is tested $C100 to $FFFF and checksum for it is wrong, so code goes to infinite loop with message "CHECK SUM ERR". Each block is corresponding to one game graphics pack switchable by cheat above. Another HUDSON's games contain some secret messages about "KIKU" and "MEGU". "KIKU" stands for Kikuta Masaaki (菊田昌昭 but "MEGU" was still unknown. It seems there was some woman programmer in HUDSON. Both messages from "Star Soldier" means woman with name starting with "M". What if this is the same woman names? M.Akakura and Megumi must be same person just in both good and bad moods. ;) So we have probably name of beloved woman programmer - Megumi Akakura.

Also
Haruhisa.udagawa & Kumi.Hanaoka
The last sentence in the first string means "I love Kumi-chan so much!".

(BUR) GameGenie:
GEOYNTEI-There are a series of the Namco games, made by the same programmers Haruhisa Udagawa and Kumi Hanaoka, that contains the same self-test for the data integrity. Or the static red screen if the PRG data is bad, or the flashing red to green screen if CHR data isn't good. Using this Game Genie code you can skip tests for the special device presence and jump straight to the integrity tests.

(BUR) GameGenie:
GEONVTEI-There are a series of the Namco games, made by the same programmers Haruhisa Udagawa and Kumi Hanaoka, that contains the same self-test for the data integrity. Or the static red screen if the PRG data is bad, or the flashing red to green screen if CHR data isn't good. Using this Game Genie code you can skip tests for the special device presence and jump straight to the integrity tests.
