A messages "プログラム オーケー" will appear after a while if PRG is ok, and "キャラクター オーケー" if CHR test is ok, in other case you will see the message "エラー" instead of "オーケー". Following effects are depending on which button combination you pressed before resetting the console and described below.

GANYNTEI | - | There are a series of the Namco games, made by the same programmers Haruhisa Udagawa and Kumi Hanaoka, that contains the same self-test for the data integrity. To enable any of these tests you need a special device that should be plugged into the expansion port. The operation of that device is very simple. It should accept the data bit from the data input port and return it back inverted to the output data port. The device consists of 4-bit shift register, working as some sort of the FIFO buffer. The input bits are goes to the input and then shifted to te output after a 4 cycles. At the game's boot, it tries to send some special data to the device. If the data output doesn't match the data input inverted, then the game continues the normal operation. But if all data (usually 32, rarely 64 bytes) is matches, self-tests will be performed. The program calculates 24-bit partial checksums for the PRG (excluding the last 8K) and the CHR data, summing only every 15th byte, and comparing it against the etalon. Before testing of the PRG data, the background color turns red, before testing of the CHR data, it turns green. If any of these tests are failed, the program will jump directly to the reset routine. It means, one of these tests will be performed infinitely, but until the special device is plugged in, or until the test are passed. Normally, you'll see the red to green flash just before the game's boot. Or the static red screen if the PRG data is bad, or the flashing red to green screen if CHR data isn't good. Using this Game Genie code you can skip tests for the special device presence and jump straight to the integrity tests. |

PAVAYEOK+EGVEAAVA | - | Re-enables one more routine, quite unfinished. The code is similar to the FDS checksum self-test, which should test some portions of the ROM and quietly continue to work. In our case, code is able to test any bank and any address location and keep all it's checksums, but there is only the last bank is tested $C100 to $FFFF and checksum for it is wrong, so code goes to infinite loop with message "CHECK SUM ERR". There is at least one more unused debug function, which is displaying the pressed buttons on the screen, but it need more hacking to get it work properly with current code. The rest of unused data is the half of the regular FDS bios, which is partially used as library for some functions as quick and lazy programming method. |

This also changes the enemies on the left into the initials "LK/AK", though they will return to normal if you leave the area. These may be relatives of Garry and Dan Kitchen, two of the game's designers/programmers, or possibly Jesse Kapili, the game's artist.

In the second stage, at the middle of the second floor, there is a gap in a hallway with extra life prize in it (to the right from the gray jumping shoes). Using D-Pad on controller 2 you can change position of one of the level's static sprite objects, it's always will move the object with index 1 in the static objects array. To enable any of these tests you need a special device that should be plugged into the expansion port. The operation of that device is very simple. It should accept the data bit from the data input port and return it back inverted to the output data port. The device consists of 4-bit shift register, working as some sort of the FIFO buffer. The input bits are goes to the input and then shifted to te output after a 4 cycles. At the game's boot, it tries to send some special data to the device. Madwoman MegumiEach block is corresponding to one game graphics pack switchable by cheat above. Another HUDSON's games contain some secret messages about "KIKU" and "MEGU". "KIKU" stands for Kikuta Masaaki (菊田昌昭 but "MEGU" was still unknown. It seems there was some woman programmer in HUDSON. Both messages from "Star Soldier" means woman with name starting with "M". What if this is the same woman names? M.Akakura and Megumi must be same person just in both good and bad moods. ;) So we have probably name of beloved woman programmer - Megumi Akakura.

This game has a couple of data protection ckecks preventing the game from modify. First of all, at the game boot, the programm calculates checksum for two title and intro blocks as well as some CHR data. If test fails, instead the title screen you'll see a black to white screen flicker once per second with a sound effect. This screen will stay for about 5.5 minutes before the title screen show up. Another integrity test for one of the 16 predefined data/code chunks selected randomly is performed when switching to the next chapter of the game, starting from 5th. If thest fails, then instead of next chapter you'll be returned back to chapter 2.

It will shows the results of PRG/CHR CRC tests, mirroring modes test and IRQ test. When you release the buttons, the game will continue its normal operation. Test is similar to the World Hero test. Also, Mari Street Fighter test mode crashes, the rest of tests are show CHR and mirroring errors for all versions. It seems, that all known versions are hacks of the one unknown version.

Before every round, before ball appears in the slot, there is a message with current player number will flash on the screen for 8 seconds. While it flashes, hold Select on the corresponding player's controller for at least 4 seconds or more. When ball is appear, press A to fire it, it should turn red on the field if done right. Now press Select on the same controller to stop it or Start to make it moving again. When stopped, use D-Pad on opposite controller to move ball to any place of the table. Additionally, do the previous operations, but when ball is appear, before pressing A, hold Start for 1-2 seconds, then fire it. The color of the ball will turn green instead. The only difference between two modes, is that at the Cyborgs screen (after entering the gates in the third screen), the red mode will be switched off, but a green one doesn't.

At the game mode select screen, point the menu cursor to the third option ("1 PLAYER VS 1 PLAYER"), then hold A + B on controller 2 and press Select or Down on controller 1 until the menu cursor points to the sixth invisible menu option. Press Start to start a "CPU vs CPU" match. In the US version, a character select option in this mode unavailable, state select crashes the game, so you can only use "CONFIGURATION" and "GAME START" options. The Japanese version of this game doesn't crash there, however these options are unavailable too.

The Japanese version there is a special option in the configuration menu "TRACK BALL". In the US version this configuration option is hidden. But if you at the "CONFIGURATION" menu point cursor to the "MUSIC" option, then hold A + B on controller 2 and press Select or Down on controller 1, a new option will appear.

GEOYNTEI | - | There are a series of the Namco games, made by the same programmers Haruhisa Udagawa and Kumi Hanaoka, that contains the same self-test for the data integrity. To enable any of these tests you need a special device that should be plugged into the expansion port. The operation of that device is very simple. It should accept the data bit from the data input port and return it back inverted to the output data port. The device consists of 4-bit shift register, working as some sort of the FIFO buffer. The input bits are goes to the input and then shifted to te output after a 4 cycles. At the game's boot, it tries to send some special data to the device. If the data output doesn't match the data input inverted, then the game continues the normal operation. But if all data (usually 32, rarely 64 bytes) is matches, self-tests will be performed. The program calculates 24-bit partial checksums for the PRG (excluding the last 8K) and the CHR data, summing only every 15th byte, and comparing it against the etalon. Before testing of the PRG data, the background color turns red, before testing of the CHR data, it turns green. If any of these tests are failed, the program will jump directly to the reset routine. It means, one of these tests will be performed infinitely, but until the special device is plugged in, or until the test are passed. Normally, you'll see the red to green flash just before the game's boot. Or the static red screen if the PRG data is bad, or the flashing red to green screen if CHR data isn't good. Using this Game Genie code you can skip tests for the special device presence and jump straight to the integrity tests. |

In the Japanese version, you need to enter your name and select a blood type before the game start. Depending on selected blood type you'll get the different parameters to your character. The available blood types are RH+ and A, B, 0 and AB. While selecting the blood type, press Up + A + B on controller 2 and RH will change to RH-, now the whole set of blood types will be different and its parameters are higher than RH+.
Swamp Thing

In Level 3, during the boss fight (a bat), pause the game, then press Left + A + Select. The scores and lives string in the upper-left corner of the screen will change to "ALISON". The secret message can be seen by doing this cheat any time during the game, but only in this particular place it will add a life.

In Level 4, walk right and up on the platforms. Reach the first stone block with scary face and two flares. Stand just between them at the top of that block. Pause the game and press Right + A + Select. The scores and lives string in the upper-left corner of the screen will change to "BRITTANY". The secret message can be seen by doing this cheat any time during the game, but only in this particular place it will add a life.
